The reasons for my starting this Theotokos Books blog are many, but include wanting to look at some aspects of what is happening in the Church and the world which seem, to me, to be somewhat neglected, or at least undervalued.

I’m thinking of “Catholic” things like the importance of Fatima, the Foyers of Charity and the Creation-evolution debate, but also topics such as the impact of peak-oil and where exactly our civilization is heading, ideas which don’t seem to be very prominent in the Catholic blogosphere generally.

My experience of posting comments on other people’s blogs has not been good. There is too much nastiness and point scoring, which is made more easy by the fact that people can hide behind anonymity.

Therefore I would hope that this blog, and any feedback it generates, would be animated by this teaching from St Peter: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” (1 Peter 3:15-16).

And this thought from Belloc is also worth pondering: that “the grace of God is in Courtesy.” (http://www.norbertines.co.uk/Hilaire%20Belloc.htm)
